“Sopraquota 900” from the small winery Rosset in Valle d'Aosta is one of the most interesting Italian whites overall. It expresses all the charm of a great mountain wine, fragrant, refined, and fresh, born in an extreme territory, at 900 meters above sea level. It is a handcrafted label, produced in a limited number of bottles, which are literally snatched up by enthusiasts. Its fresh citrus aromas and vibrant sip offer extraordinary drinkability.
The white “Sopraquota 900” is produced by a small family-run winery that cultivates a few hectares of vineyard in Valle d'Aosta. Founded in 2001, Rosset has managed to stand out in just a few years, thanks to a production of high-quality wines. Faithful to the traditions of the territory, it cultivates the historically most widespread varieties in the valley, always seeking to enhance the combination of the characteristics of the territory and the grape variety. The vineyard is about 30 years old and is cultivated at an altitude of about 900 meters above sea level, with a north-south exposure. It rests on sandy and stony soils, with components of slate, granite.and quartz. The grapes are hand-harvested in mid-October. The bunches undergo a cold prefermentative skin maceration and a subsequent vinification, partly in amphora, partly in clay, partly in wood, and in steel.
The wine “Sopraquota 900” by Rosset is a white that captivates with its undeniable finesse. A clear expression of high mountain viticulture, it pairs very well with seafood appetizers, shellfish, or fish with white flesh and delicate flavor. In the glass, it presents a straw yellow color. On the nose, it expresses a refined and elegant bouquet, with aromas of white flowers, orange blossom, grapefruit, lime zest, Granny Smith apple, and fragrant white-fleshed fruit. The sip is tense and vertical, with delicate fruit, leading to a savory finish and lively freshness. A great white absolutely to try.
