Grignolino del Monferrato Tenuta Migliavacca 2025
The Grignolino is the iconic wine of Tenuta Migliavacca, a high-level expression of the denomination, with fruity and vegetal notes on the nose, with typical hints of dog rose. The light color might suggest a light wine, but it is not so: a rough tannin strikes at the first sip, but over time all the elegance and drive of a wine that, in the past, was the favorite of the noble Monferrini emerges.
The Grignolino del Monferrato from Tenuta Migliavacca is a product of a winery in Piedmont, specifically originating from the Basso Piemonte area in San Giorgio Monferrato, in the extensive province of Alessandria. This is a winery with historical origins, as its first activity dates back to 1921 when Ettore Brezza decided to purchase and dedicate about 7 hectares of land near an impressive villa for vine cultivation. First, his son Andrea, and then his son Luigi, have carried on the family tradition over the years, becoming the first company in Italy during the economic boom years to work the land entirely under biodynamic practices, respecting the natural phases of development and growth of the plants and their fruits. Today, Francesco Brezza is the proud heir of all this careful work and continues the tradition with an eye always turned to the future.
The plants of Grignolino del Monferrato from Tenuta Migliavacca have an average age of about 25 years and grow on soils composed of clay and limestone; this grape variety adapts excellently to the continental climate of the area, characterized by sultry summers and cold winters with sudden rains and frosts. The soils are made more fertile and welcoming thanks to the use of organic compost, derived from the cattle farms of the Estate which, together with the cultivation of hay and cereals, create a self-sufficient system where production and consumption occur in a closed cycle. Once the manual harvest is completed, spontaneous fermentation begins in chestnut barrels, followed by maceration on the skins lasting from 6 to 12 months. It ages for a year in wood before bottling.
The color of Tenuta Migliavacca's Grignolino del Monferrato resembles pale ruby, characterized by garnet reflections. The aromas are those of raspberry, blackberry, and undergrowth, combined with notes reminiscent of aromatic herbs and rose; the structure is characterized by persistent tannins that dry the sip, balanced by a constant freshness that encourages drinking. It pairs excellently with cold cuts, typical cuts of Piedmontese red meat cooked in stew, and vegetarian dishes; interesting with aged cheeses. It presents itself as a product suitable for dinners, lunches, and aperitifs characterized by sharing and conversation, to enjoy together a product that arises from the patience and joy of bringing to life a living wine, with authentic and unique flavors.
