Catarratto Porta del Vento 2025
The Catarratto from Porta del Vento is a medium-structured Sicilian white wine aged for 5 months in steel. On the nose, it offers sensations of ripe yellow fruit, thyme, and anise. On the palate, it is fresh fruity, balanced, with a good body and good persistence.
Catarratto is a native Sicilian white grape variety that has recently established itself on the world wine scene. Much of this success is due to the tireless work of producers who have firmly believed in the potential of this variety. Porta del Vento is certainly one of these wineries. Located in the Camporeale area, within the valley from which it takes its name, Porta del Vento has 18 hectares of property, 14 of which are cultivated as vineyards. On those sandy and clayey soils, there are 42-year-old vines, still cultivated according to the bush training method. The particular climate and the presence of a constant breeze favor a temperature range that enhances the quality of the grapes. The certified organic farming, supported by the use of biodynamic preparations, confirms a strong passion for the territory and its peculiarities, reflected in the particular attention that the winery pays to native varieties.
The Catarratto grapes come from vineyards located at 600 meters above sea level, on sandy soils. At the time of harvest, the bunches are manually harvested following a very strict selection that lowers the yields per hectare, prioritizing quality over quantity. The alcoholic fermentation of the must takes place in cement tanks, as does the aging for 6 months.
The Catarratto from Porta del Vento is a wine that immediately impresses with its intense and engaging aroma, as only the warmth of the south can be. On the nose, it presents itself in all its expansiveness, with notes of yellow flowers, chamomile, and citrus on a delicate background of spices. On the palate, the solid structure and enveloping creaminess balance that freshness which sounds like a promise: to hear from us again in a few years, ready to amaze in the precious guise of bottle aging.
